The name of Bremen is linked to the fairy tale of the Bremen town musicians. The musicians are honored with a statue. Another symbol of the city is the Roland statue from 1404, which symbolizes the freedom of the city. Both statues are in front of the town hall, an important Gothic building from the same period with a facade in the Weser Renaissance style. The Roland statue and the old town hall have been together on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2004.
