background

Archaeological finds indicate an early settlement as early as the Bronze Age. The Wends settled here around 600 AD. About 400 years later, the Polish King Boleslaw had a castle built here and thus paved the way for the naming. This took place in 1315 when the place was first mentioned in a document as Villa Bork, which roughly means castle village. In the 18th century, the place was expanded under Friedrich Wilhelm I and Wilhelm II. Initially, the so-called Kaupers settled here. These are settlers who build their houses on an artificial, flood-free hill and reclaim the surrounding land. The Burg-Kauper district is still a scattered settlement today. In the course of this century, another settlement was created, which was largely occupied by settlers from neighboring countries such as Saxony. The district of Burg-Kolonie was created. In 1960 the three places were merged. On December 31, 2001, the small community of Müschen was incorporated into the village.
