Culturally, Central Bhutan is similar to Eastern Bhutan, with the main Buddhist strand being the Nyingma. Cities, however, developed with a mixture of western and eastern architectural genres. Trongsa, for example, has the eastern characteristic of being located on the side of a mountain, while Jakar is located along a valley, which is more common in the western part of the country.
