Trongsa (ཀྲོང་ གསར) is a city of Central Bhutan known as the eastern gateway to the country.
To know
Trongsa is one of the most historic cities in Bhutan and it is here that the first monastery was built in 1543.
The city's dzong is particularly impressive and is often described as a dragon flying over mountain peaks. Built in 1644, it served as the original seat of power of the House of Wangchuck before it became the ruling dynasty of Bhutan in 1907. All the kings of Bhutan are the first to receive the title of penlop (governor) of Trongsa, also the first and second kings ruled from this city.
The main bazaar is an elegant street of traditional white three-story houses. It is a good place to break the journey from Thimphu to Jakar.

The building is closed to the public and like many of the primitive palaces it is unattractive, but from an architectural and historical point of view it is still worth a visit.
