Ceadir-Lunga (Gagauz: Çadır-Lunga; Russian: Чадыр-Лунга, Chadyr Lunga) is a town on the Lunga (small river) in Gagauzia in the Republic of Moldova on the border with Ukraine. It is mostly inhabited by Gagauz. The population was around 22,800 at the beginning of 2014.[1]
background
Agriculture and the related processing industry, as well as a textile factory with approx. 1000 employees, are of economic importance. The wages are also very low by Moldovan standards (2004 an average of 700 MDL per month), unemployment is around 45% (unofficial estimate). The population usually lives in private homes (3,600 households) or in city-owned prefabricated buildings (2,000 households).
The drinking water network only supplies service water, drinking water is obtained by the population from wells that are spread across the city. The supply of electricity is inadequate and there is a temporary lack of electricity. The population's purchases are made in the urban market, where all everyday goods are offered. Almost all private households have their own garden for self-sufficiency, in which fruit and vegetables are grown, as well as cattle for slaughter. The Museum of Gagauz Culture is also located near the market.
