Geographical notes
Ceredigion borders the bay of Cardigan to the west, the Gwynedd to the north, the Powys to the east, the Carmarthenshire to the south and the Pembrokeshire to the southwest.
The Cambrian Mountains cover much of the east of the county; this large area forms part of the Welsh desert. In the south and west the surface is not very high. The highest point is Plynlimon (758 meters), where the headwaters of five rivers are found: Severn, Wye, Dulas, Llyfnant and Rheidol. The coastal 80km has many sandy beaches.
Background
His name means Land of Ceredig, who was the son of Cunedda, a leader who, in the fifth century, reconquered much of Wales, snatching it from the hands of the Irish.
