Geographical notes
The town is located on the Nebrodi Mountains. It is 70 km from Catania, 115 km from Messina, 130 km from Palermo: it is one of the most remote and isolated municipalities in the Messina area.
When to go
The climate is strongly influenced by the geographical position and relative altitude. In winter, especially between January and February, the climate is harsh with very low temperatures and frequent snowfalls. In the summer, thanks to the high altitude and the presence of the woods, the temperatures are very pleasant.

- 1 Lake Biviere (Biviere of Cesarò) (on the southern side of the Nebrodi). Immersed in a dense valley floor of the beech forest Sollazzo Verde, at an altitude of 1278 m a.s.l., it stretches between the slopes of Monte Soro and those of Monte Scafi about 5 kilometers from the artificial Lake Maullazzo. The lake is the destination of many tourists especially during holidays. In the summer months the waters of the lake turn red due to the flowering of a microalga called Euglena sanguinea.
