Chinguetti (or Chirp) is an archaeological site of the Saharan Mauritania.

To know

This large village (which in 2000 had about 4,700 inhabitants) in the sand dunes of the Sahara is the seventh holy city of Islam and heritage UNESCO, ancient capital of the Mauri in its period of maximum splendor came to count up to 20,000 inhabitants, together with Marrakech and Timbuktu, it was the arrival and departure point of the legendary salt caravans. Definitely a place shrouded in a mystical aura: there are still buildings dating back to the 13th century, and you cannot give up on getting lost in the maze of alleys of the old city, known as The Ksar. Also do not miss to visit at least one of the four main libraries, and an excursion to the nearby desert dunes, to immortalize in your memory the image of the Sahara desert, which here is very bursting.
