How to get
By plane
- 1 Yellowstone Regional Airport (IATA: COD). Cody is connected all year round with daily flights from Salt Lake City is Denver. There is also a seasonal link with Chicago O'Hare.
By car
Car journeys to Cody are a bit long, but you will be rewarded with beautiful scenery.
- From the North - MT 310 connects I-90 with WYO 120 from Billings, Montana. Or, an alternative is to drive from Red Lodge in Montana and take the Beartooth Scenic Byway - US-212 is one of the top 20 roads in the country. The highway is only open in the summer months. US-212, the Beartooth Highway, leads to WY 296, the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway. Here take US-212 to Yellowstone National Park Northeast Entrance, or take WY 296 to WY 120 and continue to Cody.
- From the Northeast - Pass the Big Horn Mountains via Powell and Lovell along the Medicine Wheel Passage on US-14A. Open only in the summer months.
- From the South: I-25 to Casper, US-20 to Thermopolis and WYO 120 to the hamlet of Meeteetse and then you arrive in Cody.
- From the East - Across the Big Horn Scenic Byway on WYO 14 from Sheridan, Wyoming to Greybull on WYO 14-16-20. Cross Buffalo along WYO 16, Cloud Peak Skyway, cross Ten Sleep and Worland to WYO 16-20, via Greybull to Cody.
- From the West - Drive through Jackson and Yellowstone National Park along WY 191 to WY 14-16-20, then take the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway to Cody.
How to get around
Given Cody's rather remote location, it will take a car to get around.

- 1 West Buffalo Bill Center, 720 Sheridan Ave, ☎ 1 307 587-4771. The center offers up to five different museums. The Plains Indian Museum is award-winning and the Whitney Gallery of Western Art has many beautiful Remington pieces and more.
- Cody Stampede Rodeo and Cody Nite Rodeo. From June 1st to August 31st, the Cody Nite Rodeo takes place every night with bull races, beef wrestling and more. Around the 4th of July the Cody Stampede Rodeo takes place, the biggest summer event in Cody. Cowboys from across the country and around the world compete in seven different events.
- 2 Smith Mansion. Ruins of an extraordinary wooden structure located on a hill visible from the road at Wapiti between Cody and the Yellowstone National Park. Do not try to enter the property: it is dangerous and the owners do not welcome intruders.
- 3 Historic Cody Mural and Museum (Cody Chapel), 1719 Wyoming Ave., ☎ 1 307 587-3290.

What to do
- Excursions. Cody is one of the starting points for the Yellowstone National Park. You won't have to go that far to find beautiful trails, particularly in the Shoshone National Forest.
- Ride horse. There are several ranches in and around Cody where horseback riding is possible. Many of them are close to Yellowstone National Park, so you can combine two different types of trips. One of the many ranches is the K3 Guest Ranch.

- 1 Proud Cut Saloon, 1227 Sheridan Ave, ☎ 1 307 527-6905. This is one of Cody's most famous restaurants. Don't be surprised to find yourself eating a great cut of meat on a patio with plastic table cloths. Proud Cut is more about good food than elegant surroundings.
- 2 Zapata's, 1362 Sheridan Ave (It is located at the end of Cody's main drag), ☎ 1 307 527-7181. Mexican restaurant. Mexican food isn't bad, but the margaritas and beer are great after a long day of hiking.
- 3 Shiki Japanese restaurant, 1420 Sheridan Ave. Amazing Japanese food and a great atmosphere.
- 4 Silver Dollar Bar, 1313 Sheridan Ave, ☎ 1 307 527-7666. The best burger in town. Must be 9pm to be able to eat inside, great place to eat and drink outside on the patio during the summer.

- 2 Buffalo Bill Dam and Visitor Center (Buffalo Bill Dam & Visitor Center). 9 km east of the entrance to the Yellowstone National Park you will find the visitor center which covers Cody and the Buffalo Bill Dam. There isn't a huge amount of information, but it's a decent stop if you're in between excursions.
