Corumbá it is a city within the state Brazilian of Mato Grosso do Sul.
To know
River port on the Paraguay River and railway junction on the line to the Bolivia, Corumbá is the main market of a large pastoral area.
Geographical notes
Located 425 km northwest of the capital Campo Grande.
Near Corumbá are the hills of Morro do Urucum, which contain substantial mineral deposits.
Background
Founded as a military settlement and colony in 1778, it became strategically important with the opening of the Paraguay River to international trade following the War of the Triple Alliance (1865-1870).

Corumbá: full screen map.The city extends over two levels: near the mouth, in the lower part, the historic center has expanded, of considerable architectural value; the high, a new residential one, has a checkerboard shape. From the point of view of urban planning, it has no resemblance to the old Brazilian cities, in which the colonial style predominates Portuguese romantic. Its architecture is based on the Italian neoclassical, being the same current style in the central part of the installation, the old suburb of Buenos Aires, in the cities of the interior ofUruguay and most of the gauchos of the cities of the countryside. In the reason for this, it has characteristics of a platinum within the city Brazil.
