Cosmos Country is the southwestern part of the province Mpumalanga, it's in the Highveld. The name of the region comes from a flower that transforms the grassy landscape into a sea of blossoms in late summer.

Cosmos Country is to be added to the plateau of the Highveld. The region borders the province to the west Gauteng with the Johannesburg metropolitan area, in the south to the province Free State. To the north is the region Cultural Heartland, in the east is the region Grass and Wetlands, Here the Highveld breaks off abruptly at one level, the Escarpment, and goes over into the Lowveld. The region Cosmos Country is also known as energy belt due to the coal found here and the numerous power plants.

The region Cosmos Country got its name because of a flower that was not originally native to this area: the Cosmea originally from Mexico, but was probably in the horse feed that the English introduced during the Boer Wars and feral.
In Cosmos Country, near the town of Secunda, there is the world's largest coal liquefaction plant (Coal to liquid, CTL) with a capacity of 150,000 barrels per day.
