Czerwińsk nad Wisłą is a historical place in Poland in the voivodeship Mazovia. The place is on the Vistula and is known for its Romanesque monastery church.
background
The Augustinian monastery was first mentioned in a document in 1155. Its foundation by the bishop of Plock falls between 1129 and 1155. The Romanesque monastery church dates from the 12th century. The town received city rights in 1373. The town also developed as a trading point on the Vistula and a fortification to protect the northern border of Mazovia. In 1657 the place was destroyed by Swedish troops - of approx. 500 town houses only approx. 40 remained. In the period that followed, the place could no longer recover economically and lost its town charter. After the Third Partition of Poland in 1795, the place came successively to Prussia, 1807 to the Duchy of Warsaw and in 1815 to the Russian Congress of Poland. After the First World War he became Polish again. The town will not regain its city rights until 2020.
