Deir el-Anba Maqqar (also Deir Anba Maqar, Deir Anba Magar, Deir Anba Makar, Monastery of St. Makarios / Makarius / Macarius, Arabic:دير الأنبا مقار, Dair al-Anbā Maqqār, spoken: Dēr il-Amba Ma'ār, orدير القديس العظيم الأنبا مقار, Dair al-Qiddīs al-ʿAẓīm al-Anbā Maqqār, „Monastery of St. Macarius the Great“) Is the southernmost monastery complex in the Wādī en-Naṭrūn in the egyptianGovernorateel-Buheira.

getting there
The journey can be from Cairo or Alexandria from the motorway connecting the two cities by taxi or by bus. About halfway (after 110 km), you can see the spot at the gas station, drive about 25 km south until you come to the Deir Anbā Maqār junction, which leads to the west. You need a taxi to get between the motorway junction to the monasteries.
