The Laces of Montmirail are a mountain range in the department of Vaucluse in France.

Understand

Located west of Mont Ventoux, the Dentelles de Montmirail massif are considered to be the western limit of Vaucluse mountains. This massive 5,000 ha dominates the valley of Rhône. Their qualifier of "Lace" comes from the shape obtained by the erosion of the rock. "Montmirail" comes from latin mons mirabilis which means "Admirable mountain". Montmirail is also a locality, located in the town of Gigondas, to the west of the massif.

The massif is mainly watered by tributaries of theOuvèze. The geographical area, between Ouvèze and Toulourenc, which includes the Dentelles de Montmirail (and Mont Ventoux), is protected by Natura 2000. As such, many species, animal and plant, are protected there.
