Douglas is a city of Sheading Middle, capital of the dependence of the British crown ofIsle of Man.

Geographical notes
The city is located in the eastern part of the island at the confluence of two rivers: the Dhoo and the Glass, which flow into Douglas Bay. Hills, on the other hand, extend to the south-east and north-west. Douglas is surrounded by several smaller villages, including Onchan is Union Mills.

1 Isle of Man Airport (IATA: IOM). The airport is located 15 kilometers south of Douglas. There are flights from London, Liverpool, Manchester, Dublin, Belfast is Glasgow. During the summer, flights are often available from smaller British airports. The companies operating at this airport are:

There is a steam train that runs from the airport to Douglas. The train is only active in the summer months.
How to get around
There is a horse-drawn tram, one of only two left in the world, which goes from the port to the southern part of the city. In any case, Douglas is a city where it is very easy to get around on foot.

Guided tours are scheduled for every Monday at 2pm and every Friday at 10am.. It is the seat of the Parliament of the Isle of Man. Various activities are possible here:

- 3 See the departure of the Isle of Man TT, Grandstand, IM2 6DA. The TT is one of the most famous motocross circuits in the world. Here you can see the start of the race and take a ride to Nobles Park as well

- 4 Gaiety Theater, Harris Promenade (Buses 1, 2, 11, 12, 12A, 13, 13A, 13B, 13C and 13D stop at Gaiety Theater), ☎ 44 1624 600555. Theater from 1900 and one of the few Frank Matcham-designed theaters still alive. It is incredibly detailed inside.
- Douglas Head. This is where the Camera Obscura is located which is recently under restoration and is open to the public during the summer months. Other Victorian tourism artifacts can still be found by walking around the area.
- To understand if the structure is accessible, just check if the Isle of Man flag is hoisted on the flagpole in front of the building
- 5 Castle of Mona. A mansion on the seashore designed by George Steuart for John Murray. Completed in 1804.
- 6 Jubilee clock. A commemorative watch of the Golden Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth (1887).
Events and parties
- Day of the Tynwald.
July 5th. National holiday of the Isle of Man, all members of the Tynwald depart from Douglas, the capital, and go to Tynwald Hill, a hill in the west of the island, where they meet and all the new laws of the island are proclaimed in the presence of the Vice Governor, the representative of the monarch of the UK, who is also Lord of Man.
- Tourist Trophy (TT).
First week of June. World motorcycle race that takes place on the Snaefell Mountain Course road circuit.
What to do

- Take a ride on the Horse-down tram.The double-decker horse-drawn tram in Douglas

- Buy smoked herring or salmon. There are a couple of shops on the street that sell this type of fish
- Take a ride on the steam trains. The route starts from Douglas Railway Station, and ends at Port Erin, in the south of the island
Shopping
Douglas is the shopping capital of the island and most of the shops are located on Strand Street and Duke Street, which are close enough to the sea. Small independent shops can be found in the Quay area, near Strand Street and the Sea Terminal, where British and Irish ships tend to dock. The Quay area has been made half a walkable area in recent times, and various cafes and pubs have been built. Douglas Railway Station can be found in this area.

Like the rest of the island, Douglas is a quiet and safe place, but there are still some minor acts of crime.
