  • 1 Durham Cathedral (Heritage UNESCO). It has a Latin cross plan, divided into 3 naves; the apse is also tripartite. Inside the church there is an alternation of polystyle pillars that support the large transverse arches, and of cylindrical pillars, which support the smaller ribs.
  • 2 Durham Castle (Heritage UNESCO). It is a Norman castle. It has been used since 1840 by the University College. The castle sits on top of a hill above the River Wear on the Durham Peninsula, on the opposite bank of Durham Cathedral.
  • 3 Beamish Open Air Museum (Beamish Open Air Museum). The museum illustrates what life was like in north-east England in the early 19th century (1820-1825) and early 20th century (1913).
