History

The first information about the village comes from 1678, when Stanisław Szypowski of the Szreniawa coat of arms became the property of the village as a result of divisions. In the first half of the 19th century, the property was leased successively by Konstanty Żabokrzecki, and then by Cyprian Ostrowski, the son of the heir of Modlna, whose parish belonged to Dzierżązna.

Around 1930, a 30-morgen plot was separated from the farm, the owner of which was a lawyer from Łódź - Bolesław Słomnicki, who built a house on it, modeled on the palace of Józef Piłsudski in Sulejówek. Before World War II, the owners of the farm were (in half): Lodz lawyer Bolesław Duszyński and Felicja Pawełczyńska.

After the outbreak of World War II, they were dispossessed and displaced by the Nazis in September 1939, three Nazis became property managers, and then, at the end of 1942, a branch of the camp for children and youth was established in the consolidated farm (Polen-Jugendverwahrlager der Sicherheitspolizei in Litzmannstadt) from ul. Przemysłowa in Lodz. Young female prisoners aged 14-16 worked there. There, they were to learn to work in agriculture on German farms to which they were to be exported after turning 16. The task of the branch was also to ensure food supplies to the mother camp. The living conditions of young female prisoners in the branch were slightly better than in the Łódź camp. There were no particular cases of mistreatment of prisoners and their deaths.

Historical monuments

According to the register of monuments kept by the National Heritage Institute, there is one object on the list of monuments - a manor park, early 20th century, reg.No .: A / 290 of December 20, 1983.

On the other hand, special attention should be paid to an interesting object, a technical monument, not entered in the register of monuments, although it undoubtedly deserves it - the forge.

Forge in Dzierżązna

One of the few traditional forges in Łódź, and in addition, it is the only one open to tourists. Visitors can learn the secrets of a blacksmith's work, take part in a horseshoe-forging show, learn the technique of their production.
In the past, there was a blacksmith's forge in Dzierżązna, while in 1931 Jan Kociszewski, a blacksmith's master, opened his own workshop. In 1975, his son Grzegorz took over the forge. Due to the low demand for such services, the forge was temporarily closed. The owner, continuing the family tradition, reopened it a few years ago, primarily with an educational focus.
In the blacksmith's shop you can see a set of antique blacksmith tools, but by far the greatest advantage of the facility is the possibility of watching the blacksmith's work live while forging a horseshoe and listening to stories about old craftsmanship.
The Old Forge is located on the Agritourism Bicycle Trail leading through the Zgierz commune and is one of its most important attractions. Another facility related to technology and situated on the same route is the mill in Ciosny.
