Edessa is a city of Central Macedonia. This "city of water" is practically ignored by international tourism although it is an important tourist destination for the Greeks, especially from Thessaloniki, due to its waterfalls, its slightly cooler climate and the panoramic view of the plain below.

The city is located on a plateau and is separated from the plain below by vertical rock walls.
Background
It was part of the Ottoman kingdom until 1912. From that period there is only one abandoned mosque out of the 6 existing ones.

Between the modern center and the waterfalls is the ancient Varosi district, where most of the hotels and the stadium are located.

The highest waterfall in Edessa

- 1 Waterfall. It is the main attraction of Edessa. It is located in the city at the edge of the precipice on the plain below. The waterfall has the feature that you can pass behind it. Above the waterfall there is a restaurant, alongside the tourist information and on the other side souvenir shops and parking for cars and buses.
- 2 Cave (You can get there by going down the stairs that lead behind the waterfall.).
0,50€. Inside the rock just behind the waterfall is a very short cave full of stalagminites and stalactites.
- 3 "Geni Tzami" Mosque. Its name means "new mosque". Built in 1904, it has been abandoned for years and practically ignored by locals and tourists.
- 4 Archaeological site (Located in the plain below, on a secondary road.).
