kitchen

Elizabeth doesn't have much to offer in terms of cuisine. As an unusually large number of restaurants in the city specialize in Spanish and Mexican cuisine, it is worth giving this a try. Gourmets prefer to move to neighboring cities such as Hoboken out.

nightlife

accommodation

The city's two hotel miles are on the southwest and southern fringes of the airport (Spring St; Glimcher Way northwest of Jersey Gardens Mall). The chain hotels on the edge of the airport usually offer a free shuttle service to the terminal, which is not to be despised because it is very easy to get lost in the maze of expressways around the airport. However, if you are looking for inexpensive accommodation, it is best to look around at the many small motels in the inner city of Elizabeth.

Cheap

  • Budget Inn, 427 Allen St. Tel.: 1 908-289-8900. Independently run motel far south of Elizabeth, right on the toll station of Interstate Highway 95.
  • In-Town Motor Lodge, 405 Morris Ave, at Orchard St. Tel.: 1 908-289-8585. Independently run motel in downtown Elizabeth. Some rooms are equipped with a kitchenette. Probably just as inexpensive as it is scary.
  • Knights Inn, 178 Spring St, between E Grant St and William St. Tel.: 1 908-353-3030. Chain motel in the center of Elizabeth.
  • Maple Motel, 454 Maple Ave, corner of Spring St.. Independently run small motel in the south of Elizabeth.

medium

  • Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Newark Airport, NJ, 100 International Boulevard, Elizabeth, New Jersey 07201, United States. Tel.: 1 908-282-0020, Email: . Large and extremely decent chain hotel right across from the Jersey Gardens Mall. Well-maintained, spacious rooms with microwaves and refrigerators from $ 120; large bathroom. Because of the hotel's proximity to the runway, the rooms are not super-quiet, but definitely quieter than most hotel rooms in Manhattan (which, in contrast to the airport, never comes to rest). A warm breakfast is included, but the buffet is a bit sparse than in other hotels of this quality class (if you stay here longer, you might want to bring one or two breakfast items with you from the second morning, pastrami for example, or an exciting cheese; what else do you have a room refrigerator for). Indoor swimming pool.
  • Flora Motel, 815 Flora St, near Division St. Tel.: 1 908-527-0606. Quietly located motel with 50 rooms halfway between the airport and Downtown Elizabeth.

Upscale

  • Four Points by Sheraton Newark Airport, 901 Spring Street; within the triangle US Route 1 = Spring St & Route 81 = Dowd Ave & North Ave E; Access via Spring St, but only from the south. Tel.: 1 908-527-1600. Chain hotel with 260 rooms.Price: From $ 145.
  • Hampton Inn Airport, 1128-38 Spring St, south of McClellan St, 200 yards to the right of the Hilton; Only accessible from Spring St = US Route 1 when traveling south. Tel.: 1 908-355-0500. Price: From $ 155.
  • 1  Hilton-Newark Airport, 1170 Spring St, at McClellan St; Only accessible from Spring St = US Route 1 when traveling south. Tel.: 1 908-351-3900. Large comfort hotel directly at the airport. The rooms are really pleasant (there are real duvets in winter) and surprisingly quiet given the proximity to the motorway and the airport. In this hotel, however, savings are made on service and small things (water temperature in the pool) and parking and breakfast are so expensive that it is better not to book the room directly at the Hilton in order to get a reasonable final price, but preferably via Hotwire, the room in the the same hotel often offers under $ 70 (blind booking). Self-caterers will find a reasonably well-stocked Stop & Shop supermarket 1 km further west on Newark Avenue.Price: From $ 162.
