Fauquemont-sur-Gueule, in DutchValkenburg aan de Geul, is a town in the south of Limburg province to Netherlands. It is more commonly known by the simple term of Valkenburg which is the main locality of the municipality which is called Fauquemont in French.
Understand
Valkenburg has been a busy tourist and recreational center, both summer and winter, since the early 1950s. It is a popular one-day destination, even from neighboring foreign regions.

Story
Center of Pays de Fauquemont who was part of Pays d'Outremeuse, it was a very disputed land, in particular between the Spanish Netherlands and the United Provinces. In 1795, the Pays de Fauquemont was incorporated into the French Republic and placed in the department of Meuse-Inferieure. In 1815, he was attached to the Limburg province (1815 to 1830: United Kingdom of the Netherlands, 1830 to 1839: Belgium). Since the signing of treaty of the XXIV articles from , it is part of the province dutch from Limburg.
