The town Filderstadt is south of Stuttgart on the Fildern.

Filderstadt was created in 1975 through the amalgamation of the formerly independent municipalities Bernhausen, Bonlanden, Harthausen, Plattenhardt and Sielmingen. The city is located in the west of the Filder plateau, a small part of the urban area is the Schönbuch assigned.
getting there
By plane
The Stuttgart Airport A large part of its area is in the Bernhausen district. From there, you can continue your journey to Filderstadt by S-Bahn (line S2, every half hour), by taxi (from around € 10) and, to a limited extent, by regular buses (line 806 only single trips on weekdays, line X3 with transport bans between the airport and Bernhausen , only the opposite direction theoretically possible, not integrated into the Stuttgart network!) possible.
By train
The Stuttgart S-Bahn line S2, which is operated by Deutsche Bahn, has its terminus in Bernhausen, from where you can take buses to all districts and most of the neighboring communities. It should be noted that the S-Bahn station is "Filderstadt", but the associated bus node is called "Bernhausen Bahnhof - Dr.-Peter-Bümlein-Platz".
By bus
Filderstadt itself does not have a stop for long-distance buses. The next Long-distance bus station is at Stuttgart Airport. 1 station (4 minutes travel time) with the S-Bahn from Filderstadt. Departure Filderstadt at 04 and 34. From the S-Bahn station, various buses go to the surrounding towns, such as Nürtingen, Esslingen, Stuttgart-Degerloch and Waldenbuch.

Filderstadt is very conveniently located on the A8, it is easily accessible via the 
53a Stuttgart-Messe and the 53b Stuttgart-Plieningen. Of Stuttgart from one reaches Filderstadt well on the B27 and the B312.

Hikes on the Weidacher Höhe, in the Siebenmühlental, to the Uhlbergturm, Bombachtal. Here is a suggestion for a short (9km) circular hike that starts and ends in Aich. You can also start at the Schützenhaus (at 3.5 km) or at the hiking car park in Pattenhardt and take the forest path to Uhlberg:

- after 200m the street becomes a footpath and bike path and leads to the Bombach under the Aichtal bridge

Despite community reform and the name "large district town", the five districts and their inhabitants have retained their peculiarities and their partly traditionally based and now folkloric delimitation from one another, including traditional animosities. It is not only older residents who attach importance to being correctly described as residents of their respective districts, in addition to being Filderstädter. This applies in particular to Sielmingen, which until 1923 still consisted of the independent municipalities of Ober- and Untersielmingen.
