The Eleftherios Venizelos Airport(Greek: Αερολιμένας Ελευθέριος Βενιζέλος), short El Venizelos opened in 2001. It is located about 27 km east of the city center near the village Spata(Σπατα).

getting there
By train and metro
The blue line M3 of the metro runs every half hour from the city center via Doukissis Plakentios to the airport during the day, journey time approx. 45 minutes. The next train that is connected to the airport is displayed at all stations of line 3 on the dynamic display panels next to the "regular" trains on this line. A surcharge is required to use the airport shuttle. Also the Proastiakos(Suburban train) drives from Piraeus to the airport.
By bus
There are several bus routes to the airport, such as those X95 from Syntagma Square, the X93 from Kifissos that X96 of Piraeus, the X97 from Dafni Metro Station. There are also intercity buses KTEL

Athens is served by the most important European airlines, such as the Lufthansa, the Air France, the Austrian Airlines and the Swiss.
The airport is the hub of the Greek companies Olympic Air and Aegaean Airlines
Terminals
There is 1 terminal, which on the landside consists of two connected check-in halls. Access to the security area is located between the two check-in areas and is divided into a left airside area, used exclusively for Schengen flights, and a right area, only used for non-Schengen departures. In between there are two boarding gates that can be used for both intra-European and non-European flights and are accessed via a separate entrance.

There are spaces for short-term parkers directly at the entrance to the terminal building. The first 20 minutes are free of charge, after that € 3.80 must be paid for the first hour. A little off the beaten track are the long-term parking spaces with the same fees as on the first day, 1 week costs € 50, each additional day € 5. (Status: Sept. 2011)

All international and local providers have their counters in the arrivals area. There are no shuttle buses to the parking lots.
The vehicle is returned to a small car park at the very end of the access road. In any case, take the first entrance, even if your "own" company is not displayed there. There is only this one and another attempt is only possible after a very large round.

The vast majority of shops are located in the airside area of the Schengen departure and can only be reached with a valid boarding pass.
Duty-free shops are available, but not very attractive for passengers from EU countries. Parallel to the motorway, you can walk from the terminal to the Ikea furniture store in the direction of the city (approx. 1 - 1.5 km), but this is also possible by bus at full price of € 3.50 (Emporiko Kentro Aerodromiou stop).
Practical advice
Free WiFi hotspots can be found in several places in the departure hall. You can charge your mobile phone (also from other manufacturers) free of charge at the Samsung Point.

There are numerous fast food chains and a restaurant on the ground floor and first floor. Most of them are open around the clock.
