background
Batumi is one of the three Georgian international airports. After the renovation of the terminal and the taxiway in 2007, it has a capacity of 600,000 passengers per year, of which 209,000 in 2013 were only used up to a third.
Important NOTE: Batumi Airport is called "Hopa Airport"Also a Turkish domestic airport, even if it is in Georgia. Tickets to and from" Hopa "can only be booked if the start or destination of the flight is in Turkey. Then the Turkish airport departure tax is not applicable and you can fly without a passport.
If the flight starts in "Hopa" (airport code XHQ, look at the ticket!), You have to check in at least three hours before departure at the bus station in Hopa, you will be taken to Batumi by bus (without border control). You cannot check into Batumi. Likewise, if the destination is Hopa according to the ticket, you have to take the bus from Batumi to Hopa and collect your luggage there. You can't go straight to Batumi! See the Notice from Turkish Airlines or an entry on a blog "The Sneaky Traveler"(English).
