The London Luton Airport, English: London Luton Airport, is the fourth largest airport with around ten million passengers per year London and the fifth largest of the United Kingdom. It is located about 50 kilometers northwest of central London.
background
The airport opened in 1938, but remained by far the smallest of the London airports until the 1990s. It was not until the arrival of the low-cost airline easyJet and a number of charter airlines that the airport began to expand at the end of the 1990s. Today's main terminal was opened in 1999 and is accordingly modern in design and equipment. Since 2006 the airline offered Silverjet regular long haul flights to New York City and Dubai but had to cease operations on May 30, 2008. Due to its compactness and good rail connections to the British capital, Luton is a good alternative to the larger London airports.
