Fort Rodd Hill is a national historic site of Canada located in British Columbia.

Fort Rodd Hill is a former artillery fort located in the harbor ofEsquimalt in the south ofVancouver Island in British Columbia. It includes secret bunkers, command posts and other 19th century military buildings.e century. It was in service from 1895 to 1956.

Fort Rodd Hill is adjacent to Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site, the oldest lighthouse on the west coast of Canada.

The park is open year round every day of the week from 10 h To 16 h 30 and up to 17 h 30 from to October 14. However, although the park is open, historic buildings are not necessarily. From May 15 to October 14, all historic buildings in the park are open at the same hours as the park. From October 15 to February 28, the Fisgard lighthouse, the canteen, the Belmont and lower batteries as well as the fortress fire calculation room are open on Saturday and Sunday at the same hours as those in the park, but the other buildings historical sites are closed. By car

From Vancouver, take Highway 17 also known as the Pay Bay Road south for approximately 25 km. Take the McKenzie Avenue exit, turn right and follow the signs for Highway 1, which is the Trans-Canada Highway. Turn right on route 1 and take exit 10 for Colwood which joins route 1A also called the Old Island route on which you have to continue for approximately 3 km. At the fifth traffic light, turn left onto Ocean Boulevard. Historic sites are located at 1,5 km from there and just follow the signs. This route includes taking the ferry (ferry) from BC Ferries between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay.

By bike

The Galloping Goose and Lochslide Trail take you to historic places from Victoria and the BC Ferries terminal at Swartz Bay. These trails follow old railway lines. The bike ride from Victoria takes h To h 30 while the one from the Swartz Bay terminal takes about h 30.

Note that it is not allowed to cycle on historic sites, but there are places to store bikes at the entrance. In addition, some buses are equipped with bicycle racks, which may allow you to shorten your route.
