GR-130 - GR-130

The GR-130 - Camino Real del la Costa y Medianias runs around La Palma. With medianías the zone between 600 and 1500 meters above sea level is called. That is the program for the long-distance hiking trail. If you want to go higher, you should go below GR-131 watch.

background

The paths are well maintained and signposted

La Palma is a hiking region. The island's network of paths is based on old paths and covers the island like a network. As usual in Spain, there are those on La Palma Great routes, Gran Recorrido (Spanish). This includes the GR-130 and the GR-131. There are also those Small routes PR-xxx and local routes SL-xxx.

preparation

Most of the stages will be this hiking route and des GR-131 combine with a stay on La Palma.

getting there

By plane

The island has its own airport (Aeropuerto de la Palma, IATA code SPC) approx. 8 km south of the city center of Santa Cruz de La Palma.

This is served by European charter airlines, mainly from Germany, England, Belgium and the Netherlands, Iberia flies daily to the Spanish capital Madrid. Binter Canarias connects La Palma with Tenerife, Gran Canaria, El Hierro and Lanzarote. The flight time from Germany is approximately 4 ½ to 5 hours.

Here we go

13 stages are described in the MM hiking guide. Start is in Los Llanos de Aridane counter clockwise.

Los Llanos de Aridane - Jedey

10.5km - 2:15 pm

Jedey - Los Canarios

13km - 3:45

In the first 1.5 hours you cross lava fields below the LP-2 road. Then about 1km along the road. This has been expanded, there is an extra lane for pedestrians / cyclists. The last section leads in the forest above the road.

Alternative hiking route: old forest path - PR-LP-15 - Jedey - GR-130

Coming from Los Llanos behind Jedey approx. 600m after the Sta.Cecillia chapel (striking dome) an old forest path leads upwards. Coming from Los Canarios in the direction of Jedey approx. 300m from the point where the GR-130 meets the road. The forest road is overgrown and buried in some places, but it is exciting to walk and joins the PR-LP-15 at an altitude of 1250m after crossing the El Charco lava field. Up to this point we have climbed 500 meters and are now descending on the marked path to Jedey. There we stop and then walk back south on the GR-130. A nice day tour about 6 hours.

Crossing the El Charco lava field

Los Canarios - Mazo

17km - 4:15 pm

First a panoramic path in pine forests with a view of the Teide, then villages and fields.

Hiking alternative: PR-LP-16 - Roque Niquiomo - PR-LP-17

The Roque Niquiomo is a prominent rock above the village of Mazo. The way there leads steeply through a cloud forest. In good weather you have a wonderful view of Tenerife and Gomera, as well as the volcanic peaks in the west. The PR-LP-16 continues upwards until it is just before the Forest rest area El Pinar meets the PR-LP-17. This is our way back. The Rother hiking guide suggests a shorter variant (5h) via the white-green marked LP-VM-124 (Pista de Cabrito).

Mazo - Santa Cruz

12.5km - 3:15 pm

Easy route hike with a steep descent to St. Cruz.

Santa Cruz - Puntallana

Puntallana - San Andres

San Andres - Barlovento

Barlovento - Gallegos

Gallegos - El Tablado

El Tablado - Santo Domingo de Garafia

Santo Domingo de Garafia - Puntagorda

Puntagorda - Tijarafe

Tijarafe - Puerto de Tazacorte

Puerto de Tazacorte - Llanos de Aridane

security

Do not leave the path. Don't make a fire. Don't hike alone. Inform someone about the planned route. Take a cell phone, enough water and provisions with you. Make sure you have adequate sun protection. Clothing and shoes should match the difficulty of the tour. You should be prepared for changes in the weather. Clouds, fog and wind can quickly spoil the pleasure of hiking.
