Geislingen an der Steige is a German City in the district of Göppingen from Baden-Wuerttemberg. It is located in a basin that was created by the meeting of different valleys of five rivers. For this reason it is also called Fifth Valley City. It is an ideal starting point for the middle ones Swabian Alb to explore.
background
The formerly independent municipality became the actual city of Geislingen an der Steige in 1912 Altenstadt incorporated. These two places have grown together today and are located in the same valley basin, they form the main settlement and actual city of Geislingen. As a result of the area reforms in the 1970s, various municipalities were incorporated. These are the localities Aufhausen, Eybach, Stötten, Türkheim (Alb), Waldhausen and Hamlet above Helfenstein.

By train
The city is located on the Stuttgart to Ulm railway line at the foot of the famous Geislinger Steige. There are two train stations 1 Geislingen train station (Central station for bus traffic) and station 2 Geislingen-West. Regionalexpress and regional trains stop in Geislingen (Steige) station, in Geislingen-West only regional trains. The next long-distance traffic stops are Ulm or Stuttgart.

The city area is crossed by a number of bus routes, most of which have their starting point at the Geislingen train station, known as the main train station.
Tourist Attractions
The old town is designated as a pedestrian zone and worth seeing as a whole.
- The 1 Old construction is a half-timbered house from 1445. With its eight floors, it is one of the largest half-timbered houses in Germany. Today it houses the town's local museum (see below).
- The evangelical 2 City Church was built between 1424 and 1440. With its 63 meter high tower, it is one of the most visible landmarks in the city. Because of the tuff stone used, the building is not three-dimensionally decorated, but rather kept simple. Inside is the one created in 1512 by Jörg Syrlin the Elder. J. carved oak stalls.
- On the 3 Geislingen cemetery in the Rorgensteig is the Straub's burial chapel. It was built as a mausoleum for Heinrich Straub. It is the only son of the manufacturer Daniel Straub, who was also buried there with his wife. It was built by Christian Friedrich Leins between 1877 and 1879.
- The 4 Old Town Hall is located on the main street in the pedestrian zone. It was built in 1422 and redesigned several times in the 16th, 19th and 20th centuries. In front of the old town hall is the one created in 1982 Trout fountain.
- The former City Palace was the seat of the Counts of Helfenstein and was built in the 14th century. Today it houses part of the city administration.
- The 5 Helfenstein castle ruins is located on a rock spur east of the city.
- The one to the southeast over the city 6 Wasteland tower was built as an outbuilding to Helfenstein Castle and is today a landmark of the city. It is 27 meters high and burned down several times as a result of lightning strikes, but has always been rebuilt.
