Gernrode is a district of the city Quedlinburg in the German federal state Saxony-Anhalt with approx. 3,500 inhabitants, known for its collegiate church.

The small town is located on the northeastern edge of the Harz Mountains. It lies at the foot of the Ramberges.
After the death of his two sons, Sigfrid and Gero, the Margrave Gero founded the Gernrode Abbey. He installed his daughter-in-law Hedwig (Hathui) as abbess. According to the deed of March 25, 964, the monastery comprised property in 76 localities, churches and estates.
The monastery was confirmed by Emperor Otto I as early as 961, and a castle is mentioned for the first time in the same year. The exact year the settlement was founded can no longer be proven today. Whether it existed before the monastery or castle was built, or whether it emerged as a result. What is certain is that the pen was made between 959 and 961. Margrave Gero died in 965 and was buried in the collegiate church he founded. His magnificent grave monument was built in 1519.

The Harzer Narrow Gauge Railway (HSB) has been running from Gernrode to since 2006 Quedlinburgwhere connection direction Magdeburg given is.
