The federal highway 79 (Quedlinburg – Halberstadt – Braunschweig) is still going off. Both the Quedlinburg-Mitte and Quedlinburg-Ost exits lead to the inner city ring, from which all destinations can be reached.

mobility

Map of Quedlinburg

The Quedlinburg road network essentially consists of two city rings: the outer closed ring (formerly B6, B79) and the one-way ring in the city center (not continuously passable). The city center is difficult for strangers to drive due to the many narrow streets with one-way streets, dead ends and pedestrian zones. Some navigation systems have problems with closed roads.

Wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility should note that the city center is completely paved, most of it still cobblestone. Barrier-free access to footpaths is currently being integrated, and the area around the market square was redesigned to be barrier-free in 2014. Tip: people with reduced mobility should call a local taxi company to climb the Schloßberg, they can drive on the Schloßberg (private vehicles are not possible). Barrier-free Quedlinburg is a flyer, available from the city information (PDF version).

The city bus of the Harzer Verkehrsbetriebe drives through town five times on weekdays. However, the stops in the city center and the city ring are primarily served hourly by the regional lines. Overnight visitors automatically have that with paid tourist tax Hatix (Harzer Urlaubs-Ticket), which enables free travel on bus, train and tram traffic in the Harz district and in the Stollberger area.

Star-shaped path, located on the Bode, with a playground, water games and recreational opportunities. Large stocks of wild garlic in spring. Not illuminated, so only for the intrepid at night. From the city center through the Brühl it is easy to hike to Altenburg.

Comprehensively renovated and rebuilt in 2007 with historic fountain elements and selected flowers and plants.
  • Fleets: on the northern bank of the Bode it extends along the Ditfurter Weg. Also nice for families, because outside the city center with possibilities to keep your feet in the river. Known only to locals as a recreational opportunity.
  • Wordgarten: on Carl-Ritter-Straße not far from the Schlossberg and the Brühlpark, a small garden in the middle of the center. With rose beds and benches as well as a playground and (paid) toilet. Unfortunately, almost nothing is left of the many water features and bird cages in the times of the GDR. Only a few rose beds in the places of the earlier water features remind locals of this. Good for the break in between. We also recommend the (upscale) Word restaurant, a little hidden away, with its home-style cuisine.
