background

Blankenburg was founded by the Saxon Duke and later Emperor Lothar von Supplinburg around 1123. The city, residence of the Principality of Grafschaft Blankenburg in the 17th and 18th centuries, has a number of sights to offer, including the succession of castle / palace above, the mountain church, dedicated to St. Bartholämeus, halfway up and the town hall on Foot of the mountain.

Particularly noteworthy is the baroque garden built around 1700, which was recently voted the most beautiful garden park in Saxony-Anhalt. A visit to the directly adjacent museum is also worthwhile, where you can feel the former baroque splendor that Blankenburg exudes. On the way to Halberstadt turn right to Regenstein ab, a former knight's festival and baroque fortress - by the way, the second largest preserved of its kind in Germany.
