getting there

W light rail line at the Jefferson County Government Center

By plane

From the big international Denver Airport (DEN) it is almost 60 km to Golden. It takes about 1:40 hours by public transport (commuter train A line from the airport to Denver Union Station, then light rail W Line to Jeffco Government Center).

By train

The closest long-distance train stop is Denver Union Station. There you can change to the W light rail line, which will take you to the Jeffco Government Center Station in Golden in around 40 minutes. It takes around 20 minutes to get to Golden by taxi from Denver Union Station with good traffic conditions and costs $ 40-50, or about half that with Uber.

The light rail W Line runs every quarter of an hour (until 10.30 p.m., then every half hour until 0.15 a.m., last train 1.15 a.m., Fri Sat every half hour until 2.15 a.m.) from downtown Denver (Union Station, Pepsi Center / Elitch Gardens, Mile High Stadium) through the western parts of the city (Sun Valley, West Colfax) and Lakewood to the Jeffco Government Center in the south of Golden. The drive from Union Station takes just under 40 minutes.

By bus

Long-distance buses arrive at Union Station or Greyhound Bus Station in Denver. The former takes 40 minutes by tram, or 20 minutes by taxi or Uber to Golden. From the latter, it takes a good hour to get to Golden with the 16 / 16L city buses, or 20 minutes by taxi ($ 40–55) or Uber ($ 20–30), but longer at rush hour.

The main city bus connection from Denver's city center to Golden is the 16L line. It runs along Colfax Avenue from Broadway at the Civic Center (near the state capitol) in the center of Denver through north Lakewood to the center of Golden (terminus: 10th St & Washington) St). The bus runs every half hour on weekdays and every quarter of an hour during peak hours of rush hour traffic (from Golden to Denver in the morning, from Denver to Golden in the afternoon). In the evening and on weekends, the route is served by line 16, Sat Sun every half hour during the day, 10pm - 2am every hour. However, you have to be careful: Not every bus on line 16 goes to Golden, some already end at Oak Station in Lakewood.

The GS bus line connects Golden with on weekdays in the mornings and afternoons Boulder.

In the street

Golden is due to the Interstate 70 Denver – Grand Junction and the one that runs largely parallel to it U.S. Route 6. From the university town of Boulder to the north, the Colorado State Highway 93 to Golden, from Denver's southern suburbs the motorway-like developed State Highway 470.
