Grossarl is a market town in State of Salzburg in the Pongau. The community has about 3,700 inhabitants. It consists of the districts 1 Grossarl, 2 Au, 3 Brook, 4 Just, 5 Differed and 6 Unterberg.

Via the A10 (Tauernautobahn) to the Bischofshofen junction and continue on the B 311 to St. Johann im Pongau, then onto Großarler Landesstraße, and after about 16 km you will reach the village.

  • 2 Old watch, historical dam, part of the Valley Museum at the head of the Grossarl Valley near Hüttschlag
  • 3 Hydropower plant Run-of-river power plant on the Grossarler Ache. Built in 1966, rated power 6,400 kW with 2 Francis turbines. A first power plant was built in 1917.

The Grossarltal-Dorfgastein ski area has four gondolas, eight chair lifts and six drag lifts. The transport capacity is around 28,876 people per hour. The ski area is guaranteed to have snow, as new snow-making systems are added every year.

Fly fishing in the clear mountain water in the Grossarler-Ache area to the Hüttschlager valley head (Hohe Tauern National Park) is a unique experience.

The is a few kilometers outside of Grossarl Liechtenstein Gorge, one of the longest gorges in the Alps. Engineering structures (mostly wooden slope bridges) allow access to the impressive gorge.
