Several highways run through it, from Savona, Turin, Milan, Rome and Florence. Many interchanges (watch for directions sometimes written on the asphalt).

Warning ! Like many Italian cities, the center of Genoa is a limited traffic zone or ZTL. The fines are steep, and car rental agencies ensure (with an additional cost for application fees) that the fines arrive at home. Pay close attention to the location of rental agencies.

To visit the city, try to park on the outskirts, very well served by public transport (Rivaloro by the metro or Staglieno by bus: 1,5  for 100 min). Several public car parks easily accessible by public transport are available for a moderate price: first 24 hours free, then from 2 to 5 € per day thereafter, with in some cases a combined price of 6 € including 24 hours of parking and a transport ticket in common. The Dinegro car park, accessible by metro and bus at stations of the same name, is undoubtedly the most interesting. For details, see official website for parking in Genoa.

Otherwise, it is possible to park closer to the center in one of the many private car parks, for a price generally ranging from 15 to 25 € per day.

See

The old town, built in the coastal plain and on the hillside, is remarkable with its typical and lively streets (the vicoli), its palaces, its baroque architecture stacked on medieval contributions. It is a veritable labyrinth of narrow pedestrian streets, bordered by high facades of five to seven floors. Many small squares punctuate this very dense urban fabric. The atmosphere is very special, and walking around the center is in itself an experience.
