History

City Gorky has a distant history, it was first mentioned around 1305 in the document Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis as Gorki villa vlodari. It was an unusual record, which allows us to believe that this village was much older. Entering it into the said document was probably related to the separation from its territory, previously owned by the prince, a new village given to the knight. The part of the village remaining in the hands of the princes was named Górki Małeand the knight's part Górki Wielkie. Thus, the princely Górki Małe probably functioned in the Cieszyn castellany, and from 1290 in the new Duchy of Cieszyn.

According to the Austrian census of 1900, in 47 buildings in Górki Małe, 359 people lived on an area of 275 ha, which gave a population density of 130.5 people per km². 310 (86.4%) of the inhabitants were Catholic, 49 (13.6%) were Evangelicals (Lutherans), 355 (98.9%) were Polish, 2 were German and 1 were Czech.

Worth seeing

In Górki Małe, the Dudys family run the "Chlebowa Chata" (113 Breńska Street, tel. 33 8539630, www.dudys.com, www.chlebowachata.pl). This is a place where you can try to thresh with a flail, grind grain on a quern, bake flatbreads - then you can eat them and wash them down with cereal coffee with milk, so it is worth gaining such new life experiences, and if we have about 3 hours of extra time, we can even try to separate cream from milk and churn butter, and then taste these delicacies. For those who are unfamiliar with working in a former village, and especially for children for whom everything comes from the store, it will certainly be an unforgettable experience.
