Worth seeing

The church in Haczów was on the very prestigious UNESCO list in good company, along with the historic wooden churches of Małopolska. The choice is not accidental, because he "holds" several records himself ...

Established in the 14th century, the temple is probably the oldest wooden log church in Poland and the largest wooden Gothic church in the world. At first glance, it is difficult to see, because the tower towering above it and the Saturdays surrounding it (low arcades on poles, with a hipped roof) are much younger, they come from the 17th century and represent the Baroque style. The rest of the building, however, is as it was almost 600 years ago.

The church blends beautifully into the unique landscape of this area, but the interior is the most delightful. The main altar, the most impressive part of its furnishings, comes from the time of the church's reconstruction, that is, from the 17th century. However, the original equipment has also been preserved. The oldest and most valuable monuments are the magnificent fifteenth-century (from the beginning of the century) pieta, painted crosses from the same period and the stone baptismal font, which is 100 years younger.

It is imperative to look at the door. Metal gothic fittings are an example of high-class craftsmanship. The stunning polychrome comes from the end of the 15th century. There is no such thing in Europe. The one from Haczów is the oldest and, it seems, the most beautiful. It was discovered during restoration works quite recently, in the mid-1950s.

The heel is worth special attention. The statue of Our Lady of Sorrows is famous for its miracles. The locals have been praying to her for centuries and say that "she came with water" during the flood of the Wisłok River. She stopped at the foot of the old church. They say that she chose them to look after the Haczów. Therefore, they placed her in the new temple, from where she watches over the Haczów inhabitants. Since 2003, thanks to UNESCO, the whole world knows about it.

The church is the most valuable monument in the village, probably the only one worth seeing. It is true that there is also a chapel from 1820, a courtyard park and classicist tombstones of Chamberlain Adam Rosnowski and his wife, but these are for people who are particularly interested.

The impressive Ostaszewski Palace from the first half of the Nineteenth century, rebuilt almost 100 years later by the inventor and erudite - Adam Ostoja-Ostaszewski. The building is surrounded by an 18-hectare park with a historic tree stand. The manor complex consists of a brick manor house, probably erected in the first half of the 19th century, once owned by the Truskolas and Dzieduszycki families. To the north of the manor there is a wooden granary from the first half of the 19th century.
