Urban centers
- Zhengzhou - Modern looking, the administrative capital of Henan province, but also economic and cultural capital, which has retained very little of its long past.
- Anyang - Ancient capital of the kingdom of Shang, Anyang today constitutes a Special Economic Zone but its tourist interest is limited.
- Kaifeng - Capital of the Song dynasty until the 11th century, Kaifeng retains interesting vestiges of its past.
- Luoyang - Founded in XI BC: with the name of Chengzhou, the city subsequently became the capital of the kingdom of the Zhou and then of the Eastern Han, the Wei and the Jìn. Today its tourist interest lies in its neighbors Longmen Caves (Dragon Gate Caves) carved into the rock faces of the Xiang Mountains by Buddhist hermits from the end of the 5th century AD. Since 2000, the Longmen caves have been included in the list of World Heritage Sites.
