Herstappe is a Dutch-speaking municipality with linguistic facilities for French-speaking people in the Limburg province in Belgium.
Understand
With his 1.35 km2, it is after Saint-Josse-ten-Noode and Koekelberg, the 3e smallest municipality of Belgium and with his 78 inhabitants, to , the least populated. It is made up of a single village whose municipal administration does not have a website. The names of the streets are in Dutch and French thanks to, or because of, its linguistic facilities. These facilities, acquired in 1954, prevented Herstappe from being absorbed by Tongeren in 1977 when the municipalities merged. For the first time in 12 years, municipal elections had to be organized in 2018 (2 electoral lists having presented themselves).
Apart from a post office and a police station (without any police officer), both in the town hall, you will find, in Herstappe, only a café-restaurant and a place of accommodation of the type Bed & Breakfast
Toponymy
