Urban centers
- Hertford - Capital of the county of Hertfordshire.
- Abbots Langley - To the south of the country are Leavesden Film Studios where scenes from some prominent films were shot.
- Berkhamsted - Berkhamsted is best known for its castle, now in ruins, but was once a favorite country residence for the Norman and Plantagenet dynasties.
- Buntingford - The city has a large number of Georgian and medieval buildings.
- Harpenden - A notable feature of Harpenden is its abundant parks.
- Hatfield - Elizabeth Tudor was confined there for three years in what is now known as "The Old Palace".
- Hemel Hempstead - Remains of Roman villas and agricultural settlements have been found in Boxmoor and Gadebridge; while at Highfield there is a well-preserved Roman riot.
- Hitchin - Hitchin's St Mary's Church is extraordinarily large for a city of its size.
- Kings Langley - Once there was the Kings Langley palace, a royal palace of the Plantagenets king ofEngland.
- Knebworth - Knebworth is best known for the large outdoor concerts which are held regularly in the large park.
- Letchworth Garden City - The main street of the town is called Broadway and is a boulevard similar to the American tree-lined ones.
- Potters Bar - Potters Bar is located on the Great North Road, one of two road routes to depart from London towards the north ofEngland.
- Royston - The town is located on the northern slopes of the Hertfordshire Chalk Downs.
- St Albans - The main church of St Albans, dedicated to Sant'Albano, was built between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries. In 1877 it became a cathedral.
- Stevenage - The pedestrian center of the city was the first purpose built pedestrian shopping area in England and was inaugurated in 1959 by the queen.
- Tring - There is evidence of a prehistoric settlement dating back to the Iron Age.
- Ware - Ware is full of historic buildings.
- Watford - Watford is built on a hill near where the River Colne is forded along an old road linking the London area to the Midlands.
- Welwyn Garden City - Example of a garden city founded in the 1920s.
