Hyde Park is a place in the Hudson ValleyRegion of the USFederal state new York.

Located on the east bank of the Hudson River, it is one of the best places to visit in the Hudson Valley. Not only people who are interested in American history get their money's worth here. Hyde Park also has an exceptionally high concentration of interesting and photogenic structures.

Hyde Park is famous for being the birthplace of US President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who is also buried here. No less than three national monuments can be visited in Hyde Park: the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt Historic Site, the Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site and the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site.

Hyde Park is also home to one of the most famous cooking schools in the country: the Culinary Institute of America, which operates five exquisite training restaurants on its campus.

Settled since 1742, the place got its current name around 1810 in honor of the governor of New York, Edward Hyde (1661-1723). In 1821 Hyde Park became the Town.

The nearest airport that is regularly served by scheduled airliners is the Stewart International Airport (SWF) in Newburgh.

By train

The next Amtrak-Bahnhof is in Poughkeepsie.

By bus

The bus company Greyhound maintains a stop in Hyde Park, which is only used occasionally. The nearest Greyhound main terminal is in Poughkeepsie.

The National Park Service (NPS) maintains a shuttle service from Hyde Park to the train station Poughkeepsie connects. For $ 22 per adult, you can take the bus and see all of the Roosevelt monuments.

  • St. Andrew's Novitiate, Corner of Albany Post Rd & W Dorsey Ln, at the Culinary Institute. Early 20th century school building, Classic Revival style.
  • William Stoutenburgh House, Route 9G, in East Park. House from the 18th century.
  • Top Cottage / Hill-Top Cottage, 24 Potters Bend, just east of the Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site. House where Franklin D. Roosevelt temporarily lived in the 1940s.
  • Wales House, 23 W Market St, on the southern edge of the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site. Colonial Revival style villa built in the late 19th century.

A high concentration of buildings of architectural historical interest can be found in the Main Street - Albertson Street - Park Place Historic District (1 block south of the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site). 19th and 20th centuries, Federal, Italianate, and Greek Revival styles. Also worth seeing is the one east of the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site Vanderbilt Lane Historic District.
