Way of St. James in Brandenburg
Basics
Large wayside crosses showed pilgrims from Scandinavia and the British Isles the way to Brandenburger Land in the distant past. Cathedrals, defiant brick churches, the many Cistercian monasteries but also small village churches, often still in half-timbered style, invite people today to embark on the pilgrimage routes to ancient Prussia. The pilgrims don't have to fear great climbs here, as in the south of our country, but lonely field and forest paths, roads that are still such and a pleasant number of lakes invite the pilgrims. Those looking for peace and quiet should prefer Brandenburg to the lively Camino. Hospitable hostel parents, interested church parishes and two Jakobus societies do their part to bring the footpaths of Brandenburg closer to the pilgrims. And a lot of history stays alive.
Accompanying word
God how calm and quiet it is here. No one far and wide who wants something from me. In this church (author's note: in this country) I don't have to answer any questions. Here I can breathe deeply, here I can be who I am. That's why I like to come. That's why I feel good here, God, if it is like this with you, so calm and quiet, if you can leave me as I am, if you give me so much space to breathe and don't force me to answer, then I could feel good with you. Then I'll be happy to come - to you.
Amen
