Fürstenwalde / Spree (Lower Sorbian Pśibor pśi Sprjewje) is a city in the district Oder-Spree in Brandenburg.

The city of Fürstenwalde is divided into the three districts center, north and south. Furthermore, the district of Trebus, about five kilometers north of the center, belongs to the city. It extends over 70.52 km². The first written mention is from 1272.

An impressive way to travel from Berlin to Fürstenwalde is with the NEB-Regionalbahn OE36 from Berlin-Lichtenberg resp. Königs Wusterhausen to Wendisch-Rietz to drive, to walk along the Scharmützelsee and then with the bus 430 or 431 (Bus transport) to drive to Fürstenwalde.
The NEB regional train OE35 commutes between Fürstenwalde and Bad Saarow or Bad Saarow-Klinikum. A single ticket for this route costs € 2.20, a day ticket is available for € 4.40 (as of spring 2016).
Visitors from the direction of Saxony (Zittau, Gorlitz, Bautzen, Dresden) drive up cottbus, with the regional train RB11 to Frankfurt (Oder) and from here to Fürstenwalde. It is usually cheaper to buy two combined tickets (Saxony, Brandenburg / Berlin, Spremberg intersection) than a single Deutsche Bahn ticket.

St. Mary's Cathedral
As the temporary seat of the Diocese of Lebus was Fürstenwalde bishopric and cathedral city. Today, along with Brandenburg an der Havel, the city is the second city in the state of Brandenburg to have a cathedral. The St. Marien Cathedral is the landmark of Fürstenwalde.
It was built from 1446 on the foundations of a previous church from 1230. In 1470 the church building was consecrated. In the course of the Reformation the church became Protestant and in 1557 the first Protestant service was held. The 68 m high tower, visible from afar, rises prominently. In April 1945 the cathedral was badly damaged. In 1988 the reconstruction began. The inauguration took place on October 31, 1995. The sacraments house is one of the oldest pieces of equipment, and the newest is the large Schucke organ, some of which comes from the St. Thomas Church in Leipzig.
Today the cathedral is a lively spiritual, spiritual and cultural center. Services are held on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. A visit is possible every day between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. thanks to many volunteers. At least once a month the organ music takes place on Friday at 11:00 a.m. during market time.
