Eisenhuettenstadt is a relatively young city in Brandenburg.

background

The city was founded in 1950 next to the 750 year old city of Fürstenberg together with a steelworks as "Stalinstadt". Due to its industrial location, it quickly grew into a leading industrial city. In 1961, in the course of the de-Stalinization and the amalgamation of Fürstenberg, the name was changed to Eisenhüttenstadt. Architecturally, the entire city center is an area monument. Here the very interesting "sugar style" of the Russian architects was followed and is currently being completely renovated. Since the official name is a bit "unwieldy", residents of the city often shorten it to "hut".
