Jičín - Jičín

Jičín (German: Gitschin or Jitschin) is a small town in East Bohemia in Czech Republic. It is one of the access points to the Bohemian Paradise (Ceský ráj).

The place, first mentioned in 1293, is located on the old trade route from Königgrätz to Zittau. After a checkered history of ownership, the powder magazine in the castle exploded in 1620. In 1621 the city fell to the family Wallensteinwho tried to develop it into the seat of her duchy of Friedland. Realization only progressed until Wallenstein's death in 1634. As a result, the rule changed several times; on the Sternberg (Šternberk) followed Trauttmannsdorff. The city lost its economic importance, but retained it from a cultural point of view, especially through the Jesuit high school. In the Austro-Prussian War won in 1866 in the Battle of Gitschin the Prussians over the Austrians and the Saxons. In 1918 the city came to Czechoslovakia, from 1939 to 1945 it became part of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.

• Gitschin itself lies in the valley, but, almost immediately in front of the gates, rises a rocky ridge that runs in a sloping line to the northwest. A country road runs on both sides of this rocky ridge, the western one being the Sobotka-Münchengrätzer, the eastern one the Turnauer Strasse. In the relative vicinity of Gitschin, pretty much at the same point where the rocky ridge separating the two paths drops steeply to the south, individual hills rise up on the flank of both roads, so that an advancing enemy, on whichever road he may advance towards Gitschin, In the immediate vicinity of this town you have to go through a parade formed on one side by the rocky ridge and on the other by those hills.

By plane

The nearest airport is that AirportPraha-Ruzynĕ West of Prague. Driving through Prague by car is not easy until the Prague D0 ring road is completed.

By train

Jičín is from Praha hl. You can get there by train as follows: Express train in the direction of Hradec Králové to Chlumec nad Cidlinou, change there to the regional train in the direction of Stara Paka, in Ostromer change again to the regional train in the direction of Turnov, which stops in Jičín. The total travel time from Prague is around 2:20 hours.

Of Hradec Králové (Königgrätz) it is about 48 km on the State Road 35 (Europastraße 442) to the northwest. Of Prague coming you take the autobahn D11 (Europastraße 67) to exit 42 and then the State Road 32 North. Out of the room Dresden leads to a cheap approach Zittau and Liberec (Reichenberg) and further on the state road 35 to Jičín. The highways in the Czech Republic are toll roads!

The city is one Planned city with a regular floor plan. The center has been since 1967 urban monument reserve.
