Liberec (German: Reichenberg) is a town on the edge of the Jizera Mountains in Bohemia.

background

Liberec is first mentioned in documents in 1348. Cloth making began here at the end of the 16th century. Albrecht von Waldstein bought the Reichenberg estate in 1622, which after him came to Count Gallas and later to the Counts of the Clam Gallas family.

In the street

From direction Prague you can reach Liberec via the four-lane E65 motorway. (D10) If you come directly from Germany, you usually drive to Symbol: AS 89 Bautzen-West down from the A 4 and then take the B 6 and the subsequent B 178 Löbau to Zittau. It is unusual that the Friedensstrasse border crossing in Zittau does not lead directly to the Czech Republic, but first to Poland. After two kilometers you will reach the Czech border.

Various buses and trams operate in Liberec. Tickets cost 20 CZK and are valid for 40 minutes. Tram lines 2 and 3 are particularly interesting for visitors to the city. They connect Horní Hanychov (cable car to Jested, ski area) - train station - city center - museum / gallery - botanical garden and ZOO / Lidové sady (starting point in the Jizera Mountains).

Liberec Zoo

The Liberec Zoological Garden is the oldest garden in the historical territory of Czechoslovakia. It was created in 1919. It can be reached by tram lines 2 and 3. Entry costs € 5 in winter / summer, children, students and people over 65 years of age pay € 3. Depending on the month, the zoo is open from 8 or 9 a.m. to at least 4.30 p.m. (longer in summer).

Liberec Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden is located about 2 kilometers from the center of Liberec in a north-easterly direction and can be reached by tram lines 2 and 3 from the “Botanická-ZOO” stop. The city's zoological garden is in the immediate vicinity. The area of ​​the botanical garden covers about 1.5 hectares. Entry costs 140 CZK, children and students 70 CZK. Regional gallery Reichenberg

The Liberec Regional Gallery offers permanent and temporary exhibitions of Czech and European art in the halls of the reconstructed former town bath building. As an art museum, the gallery is one of the five largest galleries in the Czech Republic. The focus is on art from Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia from the last 5 centuries and the Heinrich von Liebieg collection. Interactive exposition is not only intended for children. The gallery can be reached by tram lines 2 and 3 (museum / gallery), admission is 80, - / 40, - crowns, is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Thursdays until 7 p.m., closed on Mondays.
