The town Pardubice (Pardubice) lies in East Bohemia, about 100 km east of the capital Prague. It is known for the toughest horse race on the continent.

Pardubice is a very old town, which in 1300 came into the possession of a Bohemian lordship named after the town (from the same originated the first Prague archbishop, Ernst von Pardubice, at the time of Charles IV), suffered a lot in the Hussite Wars and from 1560 until 1863 was the rule of the state.
