Kalka is in Haryana, right up at the Northeastern tip of the state on the border with Himachal Pradesh.

Kalka is the terminus of a narrow-gauge railway which goes through the mountains about 100 km (60 miles) via Solan to Shimla. It opened in 1903 and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Kalka is also on the main Indian rail system and serves as the transfer point between it and the special trains to Shimla.
