activities

Dolphins in the Mekong
  • River cruise / Irrawaddy Dolphins: While there were still a few thousand specimens in the Mekong waters of Cambodia in the 1970s, only about 120 dolphins are currently preserved, but the number has remained stable for years. The largest number of around 60 dolphins live in a pool called Kampi, about 15 km north of Kratie. Protection zones have been established for the dolphins, fishing is prohibited there and passing ships have to follow a special route. At the Kampipool you pay $ 3-5 for a boat trip to see the dolphins. A motorcycle taxi from Kratie to Kampi costs around $ 4 per person. The best times are just after sunrise and just before sunset. The dolphins appear most often when the water level is low, February - June. Photographing the animals is difficult because they only appear briefly. You should set the camera to series pictures to increase the chance of capturing an animal in one picture. Filming, which is possible with most digital cameras on the market, is more suitable than photography.
  • Ornithologists can find the ones endemic to Cambodia here Mekong wagtail observe. In the early morning you can see them jumping around on the stones by the river.
  • Basketball and volleyball: There are basketball and volleyball courts in the south of the old governor's residence. You have to ask the security guards on site to use the spaces. Normally, however, you can use the spaces.
