Kyrenia (or officially Girne, in obsolete Italian Cerinia is Κερύνεια Kyrenia in Greek), is a port and a seaside resort in the Girne district of which it is the capital, in Republic of Northern Cyprus.
To know
Girne is a renowned seaside resort with a small scenic port, where private yachts and fishing boats find shelter, alongside the fortress. The area comes alive after sunset when the bars along the seafront become a destination for locals and vacationers.

Located on the northern coast of Cyprus. To its south lies the Kyrenia mountain range (Girne Daglari).

By plane
The nearest airport is at Ercan east of Nicosia. From the airport to Girne you can take the Kibhas company buses, rent a vehicle or, as an expensive alternative, take a taxi.

What see
The best known attractions of the city are the Cerinia fortress, the museums, the historic center with its narrow and somewhat winding streets, and the very scenic fishing port with the old lighthouse.
Museums and art galleries
- Folk art museum. Located in a typical Cypriot house from the 18th century, the small museum displays aspects and artifacts of folk art from the region.
- Shipwrecked sailing ship museum. Small museum inside the Cerinia fortress.

Winter period 09: 00-13: 00 and 14: 00-16: 45. Summer period 09: 00-19: 00. The fortress, sometimes called a castle, is the result of several additions over the centuries starting from a Roman structure, the main changes of which are however due to the Venetian period. Inside there is also the museum of the wrecked "Ship of Kyrenia", which was discovered in 1965 off the coast. If you want to visit every part of the fortress, you need to dedicate at least an hour.
