L’Abbaye is a Swiss Municipality in the canton Vaud. It consists of the villages of L’Abbaye, Le Pont and Les Bioux, and is located in the Vallée de Joux on the Lac de Joux.

background

The municipality is located on the Vallée de Joux, ws it covers the southern part of the valley along the banks of the Lac de Joux. The history of the village is closely related to the Premonstratensian monastery founded in 1126. Which was founded by Gozbert, who was a student of St. Norbert von Xanten. Because a place is mentioned as Abbatia de lacu Jurensi only after it was founded in 1228. The monastery was secularized in 1536 and the place came under the administration of the Romainmôtier bailiwick. With the establishment of the canton of Vaud, the place came to this.

The place itself fell victim to fires several times.

getting there

By plane

By train

Of Vallorbe A railway line leads down into the valley, but it runs along the northern shore of the lake. The Le Pont train station is served hourly by a regional train from Vallorbe. Here you can temporarily change to a bus that runs along the southern bank to Le Sentier-Orient (approx. Every 2 hours during the day). But be careful, if you travel by regional train from Lausanne you usually have to change trains in Le Day and not in Vallorbe.

In the street

The journey is usually made via Vallorbe, where the A9 motorway from Orbe coming here ends. From here the main road leads into the Vallée de Joux.

However, there are also two streets leading from Romainmôtier to L'Abbaye. One over the Col du Mollendruz and one over Vaulion.
