La Romana lies in the southeast of the Dominican Republic and has about 190,000 inhabitants. This makes it the third largest city in the country and one of the largest cities in the Caribbean. The city is the capital of the La Romana province of the same name. Due to its location on the south coast, the port of La Romana is the starting point for numerous cruises.

La Romana was originally a small village near the south coast. The sugar industry turned it into a large workers' settlement. In the meantime the city has developed into a tourist center. This was made possible by the port and the international airport, destinations are the numerous resorts in the surrounding area, Isla Catalina and Isla Saona.
The name Romana goes back to a trading house in which a Roman high-speed scale (barrel weight scale) was used. Over time, the term was transferred to the place.

The 1 La Romana International Airport(IATA: LRM) was opened in 2000. It mainly serves as an airport for tourists from North America and Europe on their way to the resorts and cruise lines. The heart of the airport is a simple, large hall with security controls and 4 gates. In addition to a simple duty-free shop, there is the absolutely necessary infrastructure and a modest lounge on the upper floor.
In the street

The cruise terminal is about 25 minutes' walk from the city center, you can reach it either from the terminal in a northerly direction west or east of the stadiums (a gate north-east of the exit of the terminal only prevents through traffic, pedestrians can pass), or by taxi or Bus.
